What do you need?
- Yarn: I have used Scheepjes Whirlette. But you can use other yarn as well. for example Hobbii Twister Solid or Hobbii Rainbow Lace.
- Hook: I have used hook 2,5mm. If you use other yarn, you need to pick a hook that is suitable for the yarn.
- Hoop: my spider web fits a 15cm hoop. Which hoop you need, depends on how big you make your spider web. See the pattern for more details about choosing the right hoop size.
The pattern
The pattern is written in US terms.
Round 1
Make a magic ring and work 6sc into it.
Close the round with 1ss in the first sc at the start of the round.
Fasten off the loose end.
Round 2
Ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in current sc.
*2dc in next sc*.
Repeat from * to * until you return at the start of the round. You’ve made 12 dc in total
Close the round with 1ss in the 3rd ch at the start of the round.
Tip: instead of ch2, 1fpdc at the start of the round, you could also use a standing fpdc in the following rounds. I found this video very useful. In the video is shown how to make a standing dc, but you can use this method also for a standing fpdc. Instead of crocheting in the stitch, crochet around the stitch.
Round 3
Ch2 (does not count as stitch), 1fpdc around dc, ch1.
*1fpdc around next dc, ch1*.
Repeat from * to * until you return at the start of the round.
Close the round with 1ss in the fpdc at the start of the round.
Round 4
Ch2 (does not count as stitch), 1fpdc around fpdc, ch2.
*1fpdc around next fpdc, ch2*.
Repeat from * to * until you return at the start of the round.
Close the round with 1ss in the fpdc at the start of the round.
The next rounds you do the same as in round 4, but increase the ch each round. You can make as many rounds as you want, until you are satisfied with the size. Example: R5 – ch3, R6 – ch4, R7 – ch5, R8 – ch6, R9 – ch7, R10 – ch8, R11 – ch9, R12 – ch10, R13 – ch11, R14 – ch12, R15 – ch13, R16 – ch14, R17 – ch15, R18 – ch16, R19 – ch17.
Important: this does not apply to the beginning ch2, those remain the same.
Attach it into the hoop
The hoop must be 20% bigger than your crochet work. You calculate this by measuring the diameter of your crochet work and adding 20% (x 1,2).
There are different ways in which you can attach the spider web to the ring. In this video I show the several methods that you can choose from. I chose to attach the spider web to the ring with metal rings.
