Solar Flare Mandala: a new 40 cm (16 inch) mandala crochet pattern

For various reasons, I haven’t touched my hook for a while. But after some time, I started feeling the creative urge again. Sometimes inspiration doesn’t come from actively searching for it. Sometimes all it takes is picking up a ball of yarn and a crochet hook and simply getting started.

And this is the result: the Solar Flare Mandala. A mandala crochet pattern for a 40 cm (16 inch) mandala.

This crochet mandala pattern consists of 22 rounds and measures approximately 40 cm (16 inches) in diameter, depending on your yarn choice, hook size, and personal tension. This makes it a perfect in-between project: large enough to create something impressive, but not so large that it becomes overwhelming.

Versatile and Decorative

The Solar Flare Mandala can be used in several ways. Mount it in a hoop to create beautiful wall decor, or use it as a decorative centerpiece or placemat.

If you plan to use your mandala as a placemat, I recommend using 100% cotton yarn. Cotton is durable, easy to wash, and well suited for everyday use.

Who Is This Pattern For?

The Solar Flare Mandala was designed for adventurous beginners, experienced mandala crocheters, and everyone in between.

The pattern includes both written instructions and a crochet chart, allowing you to choose the method that works best for you. You can even use both side by side if you’re learning how to read crochet charts.

The pattern mainly uses basic stitches such as chains, single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet. You’ll also work with crochet clusters and double crochet decreases.

If you’ve completed beginner-friendly mandalas and are ready for your next challenge, the Solar Flare Mandala may be the perfect next step.
